Fed: Draft laws phasing out AWAs to be ready by February
Draft laws phasing out Australian Workplace Agreements will be ready in time for the
opening of federal parliament next February.
But incoming Deputy Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD says unfair dismissal laws will remain
unchanged until the middle of next year.
Ms GILLARD .. who'll be sworn in along with the rest of the RUDD ministry tomorrow
.. says cabinet will consider the transition bill before Christmas.
She says the transition bill is a very simple one .. which will end the ability of
employers to make Australian Workplace Agreements.
Ms GILLARD says a second substantial piece of legislation reinstating unfair dismissal
laws .. delivering on the rest of Labor's election promise .. will take longer.
Ms GILLARD .. whose portfolios include employment and workplace relations .. says Labor
can't undo Work Choices overnight.
