FED:Unions and pollies ridiculous: Qantas boss
Qantas boss ALAN JOYCE says the airline faces ruin without unless it starts ventures
overseas, but unions are intensifying calls for the government to tighten laws to stop
jobs going offshore.
Union leaders have gone to Camberra, demanding action to stem job losses under a five-year
Qantas plan to start an airline in Asia and other restructuring measures.
Transport Workers Union national secretary TONY SHELDON says for every job in the aviation
industry there are six-and-a-half other jobs attached.
Qantas says one-thousand jobs could go, but unions say the loss could be in the thousands
in Australia, as the airline phases out its older planes and focuses on growth overseas.
