Clemens earns 1st victory with Yanks

It didn't take Roger Clemens long to make New York Yankees fansforget David Wells.

Clemens (1-0) allowed three hits in 7 2/3 innings and struck outeight to win his first game in pinstripes, a 5-0 victory Saturdayagainst the visiting Detroit Tigers. Clemens has won 16 consecutivedecisions, one short of the American League record.

Chili Davis and Scott Brosius homered for the second consecutiveday, and Derek Jeter added a two-run triple to provide all theoffensive support Clemens needed. Clemens left to a standing ovationwith two runners on in the eighth, and Jeff Nelson finished withhitless relief.Clemens, who is nicknamed "Rocket," was traded to the Yankeesfrom …
