Tridium Unveils New OpenADR Simple Client Driver

As part of Tridium's continued commitment to helping buildingowners reduce energy use and cost, the company announced the marketavailability of a new OpenADR (Open Automated Demand Response)simple client driver for the NiagaraAX Framework.

In a release on March 14, Tridium said this software driver isbased on OpenADR specification 1.0, and enables communicationbetween NiagaraAX Hosts and Utilities, allowing ISO's andAggregators to support Automated Demand Response Programs.

OpenADR specifications outline a specific communication modelthat uses the Internet to send Demand Response signals to end-userfacilities to curtail energy loads. OpenADR programs are used incommercial, industrial and residential settings to reduce cost, promote interoperability among demand response technologies, andallow utilities and energy providers to better manage pricing andcritical load issues while actively engaging with their consumers.

With the OpenADR Client driver, users have the ability tocollaborate utilities with end-user facilities to perform automaticload shedding events to curtail energy consumption during peakusage. The system architecture of the OpenADR program includes threeparties: the energy provider, the Demand Response Automation Server(DRAS), and the facility that is consuming the energy.

Tridium's OpenADR Simple Driver has been validated with theAkuacom DRAS and requires NiagaraAX version 3.5 or higher with alicensed OpenADR software module.

"The addition of the OpenADR Simple Driver to our expandingportfolio of software drivers provides opportunities to createstandards for demand response for a growing population with growingdemands, as well as control energy usage while reducing costs" saidMarc Petock, Tridium's vice president global marketing andcommunications.

Tridium is a company focused on open platforms, applicationsoftware frameworks, automation infrastructure technology, energymanagement and device-to-enterprise integration solutions. Thecompany is an independent business entity of HoneywellInternational, Inc.
